Binocular Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How Should I clean My Binoculars?
A: All Tasco binoculars come with a cleaning cloth
but we recommend the use of our special Lens-Pen which is specially
designed for cleaning camera and binocular lenses. Otherwise use
a soft lint free cloth.
Remove any dust or dirt by brushing or blowing with a soft lens
brush. Do not use window cleaning solutions as they may damage the
lens coatings. Then clean across the lens (not in circles) with
your Lens-Pen or cloth. Do not rub hard or you may damage the coatings
in time.
Q: How should I store my binoculars?
A: We recommend that you clean your binoculars
and then store them in their case with the Lens Caps OFF. This allows
air to circulate around the lens and prevents mildew from building
up on the lenses which can happen if any moisture is trapped between
the lens and the lens cap. Lens caps are really only needed when
your binoculars are outside their case.
Q: When I look through my binoculars one side
is sharp but the other side isn't?
A: Because our eyes aren't exactly the same you
can (and have to) “set “ your binoculars to suit your eyes. The
procedure is quite quick and simple for all binoculars:
1 Close your right eye (or cover the right objective
lens) and focus the binocular only using your left eye and the main
central focus wheel.
2 Now swap eyes by either closing your left eye
or covering the left objective lens (don't forget to uncover the
other one) so you are only using your right eye. The right eyepiece
is separately adjustable so now adjust the focus by adjusting the
right eyepiece without adjusting the central focus control.
3 Your binoculars are now “set” for you. If you
look at the right eyepiece on the binocular you will see a “scale”.
By noting your setting you will always be able to return quickly
to your setting after someone else has used them.
Q: My binoculars have a double-image and I get
a head-ache when I use them. Why?
A: Your binoculars are “out of collimation” which
means that they have been dropped or knocked hard and the prisms
aren't aligned anymore. If you return them to us we can usually
fix them for you for a small charge (unless they are covered by
our famous “No-Fault Limited Lifetime Warranty” in which case they
will be fixed or replaced for free!) |
